Malaysia has a wide selection of spa options including destination spas, resort spas, hotel spas, cruise ship spas, day spas and medical spas. The settings for these run the gamut from luxury destinations and select hideaways to small establishments and individual practitioners' businesses. Some offer other Asian therapies, such as Thai and Balinese, as well.

Although the Malaysian spa scene has emerged relatively slowly on the global wellness stage, it is growing fast. Furthermore, it is clear that Malaysia, perhaps more than elsewhere in Asia, offers a collection of living traditions that is unparalleled. There is no doubt that the country has a richness of healing culture that comes from extremely diverse roots. Traditions ranging from home care through to palace practice, from ancient systems of health and wellbeing to village folk practice, are all represented in one way or another.

On the one hand, the spa scene is a modern source of wellness offering holistic healing and rejuvenation of mind, body and soul; on the other, it has roots in the country’s rich source of indigenous, Malay, Indian and Chinese therapies. As such, it is able to offer a combination of modern technology with traditional ritual.
